Bad Blu Ray Drive?

My PS3 is 4 or 5 years old and I've been having a freezing issue with disc games and movies. The games will load and sometimes allow me to play for a couple minutes before freezing, movies freeze a couple minutes in also. Did a full disk format and it still froze. Downloaded games and movies play fine, it's just discs that freeze which, from what I've read, makes me think it's the blu ray drive. Thoughts?

If it is the blu ray drive I'm just going to replace it. My PS3 is a CECHE01 so do I need a drive for that specific model? Any help is appreciated.

It's not the drive, it's the laser. You can either replace the whole drive or just the laser. There are two drive models, the 60 Gig and the 40 Gig have the same, the 80 Gig PS3 has a different one. Also you need to swap the drive boards, because they have an unique key that has to match the one from your motherboard.

PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
