Hello everyone,

First time poster so bear with me.

Over the month that i have had my ps3, i have streamed various films etc via my laptop. I recently bought blade runner blu ray and it stuttered due to a dodgy laser, (i think).

A friend has a blu-ray burner and has offered to back up the disc and place the file onto my laptop and my question is this...

If i do this and stream the movie, will the ps3 playback be true blu-ray, or just a good hd output due to no laser being used as such? Does the blu laser need to read the disc for true blu-ray playback or is it down to codecs on the ps3 system?

Any help is appreciated. I don't want to waste my friends time if it isn't blu-ray quality.

If your friend rips the blu-ray in 1080p you have blu-ray quality, because that's the resolution blu-ray movies have.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Thanks for the reply. So to be clear, the rip is blu-ray quality, therefore the stream and playback on the ps3 will be blu ray? The laser doesn't come into it and due to my laptop being able to play the file, the codec is there etc?

Sorry to be possibly answering my own question but i need to be sure.

Thank you.

Blu-Ray quality is nothing else than 1080p, that is full HD, the highest resolution a blu-ray has (there are even Blu-Rays that come in lower resolution, for example the Tales From the Crypt box). The laser doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the material, I can play a DVD with my PS3 and still don't get blu-ray quality (even though I realy like the PS3's upscaler, but that's something else).

Thanks for clearing that up, no need to pay out for a laser repair yet!!
