If the lazer is knackered will it still light up

stripped down my blu ray drive thinking it was knackered but when i put a game in it lights up white and spins when i put a dvd in it lights up red and spins but get nothing on the tv screen no bubble this has been done with the top case off the drive have tried total restore and updated it just the same

anyone any ideas what it could be

Sounds like a missmatch of drive and mainboard.

I do have 2 ps3 stripped down so will try swapping it the with the other one dont think i got the parts mixed up will give it a go and get back to u

tried the board off the blu ray player with a working blu ray player and it worked ok so the board does match the motherboard but still doing the same so thinking the lazer must be knackered or can anyone think of anything else i can try

ps the only other thing i changed on the blu ray drive was the thing that spins the disk could it be something to do with that
