ps3 doesn't support mkv.
i'll tell you how to test it but you may need to do some research if you dont know this stuff.

do this to test if the file will work once converted to bluray disc.
download tsmuxer.
load the mkv into tsmuxer.
choose blu-ray output.
open the 'split/cut' tab and enable cutting 0-5 minutes.
(It will cut the file and make it smaller for testing)
choose destination. start muxing.

Once finished you need to use nero or imgburn to burn a udf 2.50 disc.
google 'burning bluray with imgburn guide'

the files tsmuxer output should be small enough too fit on a dvd-rw.
burn the dvd-rw.
the dvd with bluray files should play in the ps3.
test it to see if you get audio & video.

if so, do everything again but dont cut the file down to 5min.
if it doesn't your file might be non-standard resolution.
if its not 1280x720 or 1920x1080 see this thread.

The first link is for mkv to m2ts so ps3 can play it,it's basiclly along the lines of what mocarob mentions except the whole thing. The other options are stream instead or place mkv contents into mp4 container see 2nd link

I was just trying to help him test the video before burning to blu-ray.
Since he only has one disc.
