play avi files from bluray disc?

if i was to burn a full bluray disc of avi files. should i be able to run them directly on my ps3?

i've attempted it, but whe using the ps3 the actual file says "data corrupted", or if it has the correct name it states "data corrupted" when i open the file.

all the files show up correctly when in my pc and run normally....
