Well my PS3 had YLOD, and then I did the hair dryer trick on it and it turns on now and goes to the main menu. All it shows on the menu is the accounts I can log on with and I can sync my controller to it also. How ever on the menu I can only see the accounts and nothing else and I can move up and down with the controller, but the PS3 won't let me click on anything. I have tried the recovery menu but it won't even let me go up and down on it. I know my controller works cause I tested it on a friends working PS3. So what I want to know is if there is any way to fix this besides sending it to Sony and what exactly is happening. Oh and it is the 40GB CECHG01 model.

Did you use a hair dryer or a heat gun? I doubt the hair dryer is enough to reflow the solder. Try again with a heat gun, or if you are worried try finding a guy who will do it for you.

I used a hair dryer like the video on YouTube said to use. I can retry with a heat gun if that might fix it. Thanks for the help!

Dont always think youtube videos are as easy to copy as they look.
See what happens when this person thought it'd be a walk in the park copying the blowtorch fix :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRXvJ04c0SY

Though same thing can happen with a heatgun if you hold it too close and for too long over components. So be careful.

i think your heatgun thing is a red herring - check your ribbon cable to the wireless board inside your ps3, or connect your controller with a usb wire and try then.

Oh yeah, the heat gun fix should always be a last resort measure. Always try everything else first like loose/broken cables, ribbons, remove dust using vacuum and/or air can etc. I assume more people have tried those before considering using the heat gun fix.
