Hi guys, I bought myself a YLOD 40gb ps3 in aim to fix it. Cracked it open to find it was an 80gb model with a 40gb harddrive. I reflowed it thinking that was what was up. It had no effect what so ever. I havnt really seen YLOD like this before to be honest. I have fixed quite a few ps3s, but non with this.
The console turns on with a green light, the fan revs up (within a second of starting), then about 5 seconds later, it flashes yellow, then blinks red for aslong as I leave it.
Does anyone have a fix/no whats up with it? It just seems odd that I cant find anyone with the same sort of problem :P
I had one like this, it looked like someone had been in it before and made it worse, does it look like it's been opened before, if so that's probably what happened.

Yeah, you can tell that someones been in there before. The guy who I bought it off told me that he had opened it to remove a stuck in disk. Which I though was strange seen as it stays on long enough to eject and insert disks (doesnt get to xmb). So I went further in to find out that he was lying and that someone had reflowed the board before! Plus whoever had done it had stupidly over applied the thermal paste. It was a mess. So I cleaned it up, reflowed it, applied thermal paste correctly and put it back together hoping for the best. Still the same as before.
Think I'm just going to sell it on and get my money back. Not spending stupid amounts to get it fixed!
