I have one of the older PS3's that i got from Gamestop 2 years ago. Yes it is the older system that did not come wireless ready. Without having to buy a 100' of ehternet cable to get this thing connected, what do I need to get and where can I find it. On the back of the console it has a recepticle for an HDMI cable that I am currently using for my TV, also has the port for a standard connection resulting in a non HDMI, the power supply port and lastly an ethernet port. No there are no USB ports anywhere on it aside from the 2 on the fromt that the controllers plug into when needing to charge.
Hopefully I am not sounding like a smart a$$ while providing enough info to receive an answer to my question.
You bought the original launch model? The 20GB PS3?
Apart from those first 20GB models, all other ps3 models come with wireless networking. Though the wiki states the 20GB can support wireless networking.
Forums say that you cannot use dongles, but you can create a bridge using the ethernet port. So if you have a laptop, you can share the wireless network on the laptop with the PS3. This is of course if the laptop has an ethernet port as well. But with this method it means having your laptop on at the same time.
Another way is to buy a wireless hub or access point to place next to the PS3, again connected via ethernet cable.
So there is no adapter like they sale for the XBox 360 only with an ehternet cable? I have a wireless router connected to my pc but like stated earlier it is close to 100;' away from the PS3. basically I guess i'm looking for a wireless modem? Do they make them that plug into an ehternet port?

What you are looking for is a Linksys WGA54G or something equally. For the Linksys try ebay. On Amazon.com they have devices like it:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?...+wga54g&x=0&y=0 The TRENDnet addapter looks interesting and isn't too expensive.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
Sony did have plan to release a wireless dongle but then gave it up, even though all later models come with wireless inside.
Are you sure you have the original 20gb wireless-less model?
Also 100' is just over 30m, so that#s close to the outside range of most wireless routers, unless you have a more expensive one. So you will most likely get lost of disconnections and unstable connection, especially when you add walls and other electrical devices into the mix.
is probably what you want. So not only will you get your ps3 connected, it will also extend your wireless router's range making other wireless devices connectible from that area and further away.
