Firefox got faster, important tech mimics Chrome's

article published on 15 June, 2017

Not long time ago Firefox was amongst the leading web browsers in the world. The software developed by Mozilla has however fallen quite far in usage and the reason is likely a rather underdeveloped technology. Now Mozilla has announced a new version of Firefox that should bring the once great browser back with updated technology and improved speed. Newly released Firefox 54 uses a new ... [ read the full article ]

Updated 53.0.3 to 54.0 in less than a minute. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the news. I've been entrenched in FF for years and couldn't quite make the switch to Chrome, though I run several browsers side-by-side. I hope this makes FF what it once was, or begins the process.

I absolutely love Firefox. Been using it for 10 years. Cannot go to another browser, hopefully they don't change too much! I hate what Chrome has become.

Too bad, because Firefox is desperately trying to BECOME Chrome. For all its flaws, I still prefer Pale Moon over Firefox, since the Australis "makeover" years ago, which was done to mimic Chrome. No, I do NOT appreciate losing customizability, thanks just the same.

I also am heartily unimpressed by the Firefox devs' past and current treatment of their userbase.

I don't believe the hype. Firefart STILL runs ever much
more slower than a sitting pile of dung.
It crashes more than ever;
it crashes so much to call it a freak accident
on the I-90!

Firefart even takes too long to completely load lesser
graphics-intensive web pages such as Craigslist.
It takes me almost twenty minutes to load the Mozilla
website's Feedback page, fer christ sakes!
Almost TWENTY Minutes?!
Even using it with just one plugin, FF still runs slow.
Like it's trying to be Java, Adobe, and Chrome all at once.
PUH-THE-TIC.

Leave a comment on Mozilla's Facebook page and the reply looks
like a bot message, it's the same reply used for everyone else
who comments on Mozilla's FB page. PUS-THE-TIC!

Mozilla Firefart will NEVER be like Chrome, and I'm not much
a Chrome user except on my smartphone.
Oh, yea, Firefart runs just as slow and crashes frequently
on my smartphone as well. I'm not making all this up.

Any other BETTER browsers out there that is NOT related
to Firefart, Chrome, IE, or Safari?
A browser that is NOT so Windows-Vista bloated?

In my opinion, Firefart surpasses Internet Explorer as the
most pathetic browser ever, because it crashes too much and
it runs so slow, AND it hogs system resources and memory...

Mozilla should just stop. Just STOP. Throw in the towel.
Hang itself. Blow its brains out. Commit Seppuku.
Explode out of its own desperate misery.
Cease and desist. Poof! Pow! VANISH! once and for all.

Several of the branched Mozilla browsers are decent, although each has its own idiosyncrasies and obnoxious bits, so YMMV. I prefer Pale Moon but a lot of sites aren't aware of the browser, thinking I'm running an ancient Firefox build, occasionally requiring fussing with useragent strings =p .

The plus side, however, is that Pale Moon runs *most* Firefox plugins/add-ons, although there are notable exceptions. Basically, it's Firefox w/o the Australis f*ckery and some common-sense changes, and although it is a Mozilla variant, it no longer a direct fork of Firefox code and uses its own engine, for both good and ill...

Well, I think your Bandwidth speed blows YUGE chunks!!!
I just went to about 45 Mozilla sites with FIREFOX and they all loaded in about 1 second or 2 maybe.

The Feedback page loaded in a second too!!

I found that the Chrome engine (using Vivaldi) overloaded my system and caused serious overheating of my laptop. One thing I noticed is that the Chrome engine seems to run a separate process for each tab.
I switched to Firefox and these problems disappeared.

Plus, Chrome has extremely limited functionality. I previously used Opera 12.17, which has many features which I regard as indispensible and pure common sense. I was able to recover most of this functionality with Firefox.

I am now on Firefox 53. The program is greatly improved over a few years ago. I don't understand the complaints about it being slow.

If a new version of Firefox that is Chrome based has similar problems to what I described above, I will definitely stay with version 53 as long as possible.

Firefox has improved in a few ways (stability and speed especially, although it still leaks memory) but massively regressed in others (horrible UI decisions, for example). Sadly, they've essentially been chasing all of the mistakes Chrome has made, trying to take back market share =/ .

Thing is, the current build of Firefox is now doing exactly what Chrome has done for a long while now that you dislike, to whit: running each tab as a separate process ^^' .

The main problems I have with Firefox are unnecessary bloat, obnoxious nannying and handholding (even when not especially wanted or warranted) and continuing removal of UI flexibility. The attitude of the Firefox devs has also been, quite often, pretty damn deplorable towards users.

That said, folks, ignore the obvious sockpuppet troll... Any adult should be able to acknowledge that no browser is flawless, right..? Right. It's not worth the drama.

So, this is at least a 10 year old computer.
I don't really think you should be complaining so much.

I seriously doubt if Mozilla tests their browser on any computer this old. Might be time for an upgrade.

Yep, it's an old box. But I use it with many modern and
updated graphics-intensive programs, CG-modelers,

...so far I've had no problems running

So then why must I encounter problems with a web browser

Well, one thing to try is creating a fresh FF Profile, that will act like FF was just installed, without your existing toolbars and add-ons.
Open the 'Run' command and type in 'firefox -profilemanager' to create a new one, then have it launch the Profile Manager when you start FF to chose the new one for testing purposes.

The other question I have is what's your internet speed? That can affect browsers the most.

BTW, I am a Computer Tech, so I have dealt with all kinds of issues before.

most pathetic browser ever, because it crashes too much and
it runs so slow, AND it hogs system resources and memory...

Mozilla should just stop. Just STOP. Throw in the towel.
Hang itself. Blow its brains out. Commit Seppuku.
Explode out of its own desperate misery.
Cease and desist. Poof! Pow! VANISH! once and for all.
It's better to bow and walk away discretely than to get
boo'ed off the stage in public ridicule.
Please describe your system. I can understand that you may have problems with a low performing older system, but Firefox 53 works very well with a modern high performance system such as mine:

Windows 7x64 Pro
HP Elitebook 2760p
I5 processor
12 gb memory
This is my current system...

Windows 7 x64
Dell Dimension 9200
Intel Core2 cpu 6300 @ 1.86GHz
4gb RAM
Nvidia GeForce GT730 2gb DDR3

My internet speed right now is capped at 128kbps because
I've used up my monthly 2gb Data (Verizon monthly phone plan).
Yes, I connect my PC online via my smartphone's mobile wifi...
...because Fk cable internet, that's why.
But even at this slow speed I've had some good responsiveness
from torrent clients.
When I add more Data to increase my bandwidth speed things
run more smoothly when I use the Chrome browser.

When I run Firefart, it's fine for a few minutes and then all
the BS crashes and hung pages start to occur and I sit there
Waiting for FF to respond.
No browser is perfect; but for a technology that brags
about being "perfect" with every update, this is quite pathetic.

I will try your suggestion of creating a fresh FF profile
that will run without toolbars, add-ons, and plugins
and I'll see how that goes.

Kurt I appreciate your input as Comp Tech,
because I can learn from this as I go.

------------------

One or two schmarmy folks here who have responded
appear to be a bunch of young know-it-all trolls who think
they're so "All-That" with today's modern technology.
The truth is, without it they are NOTHING...
...Ground them for a week without their gadgets, PCs,
game consoles, and any digital/cyber access to anything
including Mallmart and they'll borrow their friend's ipads
to post suicide videos on Facebook if we don't hand it all
back to them. Call them a Waaaahmbulance.
Buncha spoiled Snowflakes they are.

Life was much more blissful without home computers and
without the internet 30+ years ago.

------------------

Back on topic... we're discussing Firefox.
We're not comparing our computers' ages and d*ck sizes,
nor who has better hardware, as none of those ass-specs
are impressive.

Yep, it's an old box. But I use it with many modern and
updated graphics-intensive programs, CG-modelers,
video-editors, and music editing...
...so far I've had no problems running
such programs on this old reliable workhorse.
So then why must I encounter problems with a web browser
such as Firefart?

So, this is at least a 10 year old computer.
I don't really think you should be complaining so much.

I seriously doubt if Mozilla tests their browser on any computer this old. Might be time for an upgrade.

It takes me almost twenty minutes to load the Mozilla

Almost TWENTY Minutes?!
Even using it with just one plugin, FF still runs slow.
Like it's trying to be Java, Adobe, and Chrome all at once.
PUH-THE-TIC.

Leave a comment on Mozilla's Facebook page and the reply looks

Mozilla Firefart will NEVER be like Chrome, and I'm not much
a Chrome user except on my smartphone.
Oh, yea, Firefart runs just as slow and crashes frequently
on my smartphone as well. I'm not making all this up.

Any other BETTER browsers out there that is NOT related
to Firefart, Chrome, IE, or Safari?

When I lived in the wilderness, up until 5 years ago, I had dial-up internet at 28.8 kbps so I can sympathize with a 128kbps limit. However, no modern browser is designed for dial-up speeds. Clearly the problem is with the slow internet speed and not with the browser. I also doubt that the system hardware described would affect browser performance. A solution might be to try an older browser --- one designed with slow internet speeds in mind.

Also, can we try to keep insulting language out of this?
