Hey everyone. I'm an advanced user and I've been using a build of ffmpeg on Windows for several months now.
I've been looking around and I'm having a bit of a dilemma. I recently purchased the Curb Your Enthusiasm series and I'm trying to back-up each DVD. I've followed a few guides on how to back-up the disc using the latest up-to-date software and I ended up using DVDFab 6.0.6.0 to copy the contents of the disc to my hard-drive. My goal is to save hard-drive space and store the DVDs for safe keeping. So I would like to back-up the disc, encode the files from .vob to XviD with AC3 audio and maintain a good video and audio bitrate while doing so.
Normally I would know what to do with a movie but when it comes down to television it seems as though they merged the episodes into each other. For instance, episode one begins in VOB_01 and ends in VOB_02 and episode two begins in the second half of VOB_02 etc. Not only do I need to back-up the disc, but split the .vob files accordingly and then merge them. What is the best method to approach this? Should I encode the .vob files to .avi first, split and merge them? Or is it best to split the .vob files, merge and then encode to .avi? Is there something I can do to make this easier on myself? As there is 2 disc per season (6 seasons in total).
The old DVD Decrypter (not the new DVDFab HD Decrypter) works on most episodic disks.
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Decrypter Insert disk and on the top menu, select 'Mode' > 'IFO'
The right window, under the 'Input' tab, will list the PGCs (episodes)
Highlight an episode and right click;select 'File Splitting' and set how you want the episode ripped.
Choose an output path and rip the episode.
If you convert the episode to avi using AutoGK, run AGK and select the IFO file as input.
There are programs around that let you batch rip the episodes using DVD decrypter - it has been discussed at Afterdawn.
