DL, Layer breaks, media and player compatablilty

I always hear of people having probs with layer breaks and getting a pause or just not even playing when it gets to that point on the disc.

Is this really avoidable?
My old xbox of 5 yrs can play -DL without any layer breaks troubles.
And my newer pioneer dvd can play both - & +DL Without any trouble. My 4 yr old cheap dvd player will play well until the layer break kicks in, then just stops.
From this I say it is a player compatablility prob and not a media problem.
Would love to hear others thoughts on this. Thanks

The media I used were 10 Ritek 8x DL + burned at 4x. And the other 10 were Verbatim DL. Out of 20, not 1 coaster.
I must admit a little program called VobBlanker saved me from pulling my remaining hair out with layer break issues. It's pretty frustrating when you wait 4-5 hrs to encode something then Imgburn says it can't burn it.Thankyou VobBlanker!
I guess proper bitrates,burning speeds etc all play there part in creating a successful dvd.
