Hello all,

Looking for info to either confirm or deny data loss (over time) on cheaper dvd+ or - R media. Read a thread or 2 here a long time ago regarding this topic but cant find them now. Any help would be appreciated.

At least 99% of all "my data disappeared" type posts are unfounded. Unless you thoroughly tested the disc with multiple methods when the burn was made, then there is zero basis by which to claim data has "disappeared".

Indeed, most errors of this sort are an issue of aging/failing reader equipment. Unlike discs that made to last for decades, optical drives tend to crap out in just a couple of years. And then many cheap discs are not made with the most readable components, so you really need a good new/fresh drive (not just any new/fresh drive -- a good one) to get the data read back off.

On the off chance the burn really is bad, it was probably bad all along, you just never noticed it.
