I replaced the dvd burner that came in my Compaq Presario I bought in April. The Lite On burner performed flawlessly for a few days and then suddenly quit during a burn. It wouldn't recognize a blank or burned disc. I replaced it with another model Lite On burner that I had bought new from Newegg. This burner performed perfectly for about 10 burns and the same thing happened. Any ideas?

I would test these on a different operating system and on a different computer .. could be a bad cable or drive in which case the problem will come back.. or if it works flawlessly it's obviously some more M$ bugs.

Thanks guys. I was on the phone with Lite On techs twice and they didn't come up with a fix either.

I would look into bad wiring, too, be it power or data wiring.
I've seen "leaky" PSUs kill optical drives.
