My LG writer has suddenly stopped writing DVD image (ISO) files. I rip files onto my hard disk with DVD Decrypter, create the image with DVD Shrink and burn to disk with DVD Decrypter again or Nero. Of late, both Decrypter and Nero have been giving me error messages.
I have found a partial solution but that cannot be long-term. Using System Restore, I took my settings to a date before the problem started. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the three programs. Decrypter then wrote a couple of disks. Then I used Nero to transcode (successully) an avi file to VOB. After that, Decrypter stopped burning.
I used System Restore again. I managed to write another DVD with Decrypter. Then I tried to see if Nero would work; it didn't. After that, Decrypter again stopped writing.
BTW, both Nero and Decrypter had simulated the write without reporting a problem.
Uninstalling and reinstalling my hardware does not seem to help.
What I cannot figure out is why both programs can successfully simulate/test-write but cannot perform the actual write. If something is wrong with my drive, then how did System Restore make Decrypter work for some time? Again, after Decrypter worked, why did it fail after I did anything with Nero?
Can someone help with a long-term solution, please?
Here are the log reports/error messages I got:

There's an RB02 firmware here.
http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/GSA-H44N/files.html
Quote: MBI 01 - RG40
Perhaps using Verbatim disks instead of Moser Baer would help
Quote: Burn process failed at 16x
- or cutting back the burn speed to 8x or even 4x.
I would start by updating the firmware and removing Nero with the Nero clean tool.
Using Verbatim disks (at 4x) burn some disks using ImgBurn (newer than DVD Decrypter) and see if the problem is gone.
If it is - and you definitely need to use Nero - don't use it for burning.
Simulated burns will only check communication between the burning program and the firmware.

Thanks for replying, attar. I just wanted to know, does this part of the log mean there is something else I need to fix?

I will try to follow your advice as far as possible. But I am a little unsure about a few things:
(1)
Quote:

You mean not use ImgBurn or Nero?
(2)The firmware update site shows updates for RB01 and RL02, not RB02. Being a dummy, I would like to know if RL02 is a safe update from RB01.
(3)Not sure if we get Verbatim DVDs in India, where I live. Had the problem with Sony and Moser Baer.

medium error = a problem with the media, ie the disk.
If you download the other firmware, there is a readme file that refers to it as RB02.
Use ImgBurn as your burning software;it's arguably the best available.

Do not Multi-task When burning.
Don't know how old your Computer is, but Most Comps in use today have at least 1 gig of memory, you Could use More Memory

Problem solved
Thanks for your suggestions, attar and Berryone. The problem was somewhere else.
It appears it was happening because of a large number of files (total 11GB) saved as System Volume Information. Most of it was information about various restore points and I deleted the lot. The result was that I have no restore points as of now but I suppose the PC will automatically set new points as time progresses. The important thing is, I can burn DVDs now.
I am using ImgBurn now, as attar suggested. DVD Decrypter for ripping, DVD Shrink for reauthoring/shrinking, Nero for transcoding and menu authoring, ImgBurn for burning.
