hey people

I'm having a problem ripping a DVD, and since its not my forte (I'm more of an audio guy) I thought I'd just ask here. I'm trying to rip season 5 of LOST. I'm using DVDFab 7. Discs 2 thru 5 ripped fine, but everytime I try the first one, DVDFab analyzes the DVD then just crashes. I tried the same thing on another computer, so its not my hardware, and I had just downloaded the free version of DVDFab. Any ideas and/or other apps to try? I used to use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, but I know that they're way out dated. thanks

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

First of all, is the disc clean without fingerprints, food, etc? Are there bad scratches? Does it freeze at the same percentage point of ripping? Fab seems to be working fine if it did the other discs in the series. What version of Fab are you using? Do you have AnyDVD? This is what I use almost 100% of the time. So I'm not that qualified to comment much about the Fab program. But I have paid version of Fab(7060). If the disc is dirty, I clean them with isopropyl(rubbing)alcohol and a soft paper towel.

DVD Shrink still works for me now- even on the latest discs. I then use ImgBurn to write it to another DVD- it plays like the original.

djscoop,
Television show DVD's are authored a bit differently from regular movie DVD's and can confuse some ripping programs. Add to this sophisticated and up to date copy protection and you can have a hell of a time getting your job done.

Free programs are the blessing of the web but if you are serious about protecting your collection investment by making backups, check out a bundled package of AnyDVD (for decryption), CloneDVD (for compressed backups or split backups) and CloneCD (name misleading: for Dual Layer backups of DVD's). SlySoft is the company. Get the package that includes free, lifetime upgrades. BTW, I don't work for them, just know a good package when i see one!
