Backing up EAC database

I am going to install a new hard drive in my system and will reinstall windows and EAC. I'm trying to figure out how to back up the database which stores all info I have tagged on the cd's I've ripped. I go to "export all database to" tab and can only choose to DB text file. Then I try to load the file and it only wants a .dat file. How to I back this up correctly?

I can't answer your question but I suggest you keep your old C: and use it as D: or something like that. You always forget something. Also do not forget to make sure you can connect to your old network if it is secure. That was a big pain for me. The newtwork and the router were all 'locked down'. Fortunatly I was able to guess the username and password.

Don't want to do that. How would eac know to look in drive "d" anyway. There has to be a way I guess I'll just keep looking online for my answer. Thanks anyway

No that is not what I suggested. A far smarter way would be to overwrite the new directory with the old. I only suggested that you keep the old C: because every time I have created a new C: there is always a dozen or so utilities I use very infrequently that I forgot to back up. Some are no longer available on the web.

I don't use EAC so I can't check it out on my computer. I bet the database is a dat file. I would try looking for that and try overwriting the dat file and see what happens. There were several regulars that used EAC extensivly but I have not seen a post from any of them in months.

What baffles me is why you would want to preserve information. Itn't all that info in your audio files? I look to the audio file for that information using a utility that is merged into File Explorer. I just lay the mouse pointer on the file and a balloon window pops up with all that info. My audio player also allows easy access to all that info and much more. You can add lyrics and artist info.

I have tried to install eac in another computer and copied all files from program files to the other computers program files and it diddnt work. As for backing up the database there are certain things I like that the Internet can't do like having songs, artist, and album in caps lock.
