You want an mp3 from this stream?
If so, it can be converted using VLC.
If you want the steps I can post them.

Aternately, for mp3 output:

It now drops back to VLC Main window and after a pause, the conversion starts in real time.
(In the Main Menu,if you click 'View' and checkmark 'Status Bar', in the lower left of the main screen, 'Streaming' will be displayed - note, after a pause, the scroll bar may start showing progress).
In any case, the new file should appear on the desktop as it converts.
When output is complete 'Streaming' will be removed.

I need your help again. I sucessfully converted the file using VLC. I am now trying to convert the rest of the files I have but stuggling to use notepad in the way that you did.
If I have a weblink e.g. http://mfile.akamai.com/31723/wma/brigh...ntro_081210.asx
how do I open it in the way that you did to show the ''mms://'' link
.. Sorry for being a pain, I admit I am a proper IT amateur

Drag the .asx into Notepad.
I played it from the link, it's only two minutes:saved it out of VLC, same length.
