Hi guys

Hope you can help me.

I'm trying to convert an asx file to a format that I can burn to a disc. I've found the URL using notepad:

http://mfile.akamai.com/31723/wma/brigh...o2_module01.asx

However, it just opens in windows media player and I'm at a loss as to how I convert it to a writeable file. I am no expert with computers myself so I would really appreciate an experts help. Cheers

You want an mp3 from this stream?
If so, it can be converted using VLC.
If you want the steps I can post them.

These were my notes from your file:pick out what you need.

Open a typical .asx file in Notepad, see this:

<ASX VERSION="3.0">

<REF HREF="mms://a11.v31723c.c31723.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/11/31723/v0001/brighttalk.download.akamai.com/31723/ssclients/zurich/ro2/patterson_audio_ro2_module01.wma" />
</ENTRY>
</ASX>

Highlight and copy this part of the link from the text above:

mms://a11.v31723c.c31723.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/11/31723/v0001/brighttalk.download.akamai.com/31723/ssclients/zurich/ro2/patterson_audio_ro2_module01.wma
========================================================================================
Run VLC.
On the Main screen, click 'Media' > 'Open Network Stream'.
Paste the link that you copied.
On the lower/right, click the down arrow and select 'Convert'.

For RAW output:assumes the source is .wma audio as is listed in the link above.
For 'Destination file', click 'Browse' and go to the Desktop, type a file name, e.g. Ro2_01.wma
Click 'Save'.
In 'Settings' check the box for 'Dump raw input'.
Click 'Start'

Aternately, for mp3 output:
For 'Destination file', click 'Browse' and go to the Desktop, type a file name, e.g. Ro2_01.mp3
Click 'Save'.
In 'Settings', select Audio-mp3 in the Profile drop down menu.
Click 'Start'

It now drops back to VLC Main window and after a pause, the conversion starts in real time.
(In the Main Menu,if you click 'View' and checkmark 'Status Bar', in the lower left of the main screen, 'Streaming' will be displayed - note, after a pause, the scroll bar may start showing progress).

In any case, the new file should appear on the desktop as it converts.
When output is complete 'Streaming' will be removed.

I need your help again. I sucessfully converted the file using VLC. I am now trying to convert the rest of the files I have but stuggling to use notepad in the way that you did.

If I have a weblink e.g. http://mfile.akamai.com/31723/wma/brigh...ntro_081210.asx

how do I open it in the way that you did to show the ''mms://'' link

.. Sorry for being a pain, I admit I am a proper IT amateur

Drag the .asx into Notepad.
I played it from the link, it's only two minutes:saved it out of VLC, same length.
