Okay first of all I just want to say sorry because I know this isn't the first time anything like this was posted. I did search the forums but I could never seem to find a direct answer to my situation. So, like I said, I apologize.

I bought this ipod off of some guy off ebay and he had a few hundred songs that he bought from itunes. I'm trying to convert the protected files into mp3's so that I can play them on my own computer. I do not have the information to authorize my computer. So this means I cannot play the file and re-record it in audacity (which I would not like to do anyways as there are 299 songs to convert) nor can I burn them to cd's and then rip them back to my computer. Can anyone please help me here? It is much appreciated!!

Thy this.. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/156883 no guarantees. You didn't buy them so technically they aren't yours in the first place.

This method will not work for me because my file types are itunes protected file types, which are .m4p's, a file type not supported by nero when making an audio cd.

Without the license, you're basically screwed. Is that a direct enough answer?

Yeah I guess. I remembered looking into it a while ago and the only solution was burning it to a cd or re-recording with audacity so there's been more progress since then. Maybe another year or so lol.

DRM removers require that you play the file to convert it, so you need a license to remove the DRM. There was one app that simply removed the DRM surgically. They were sued out of existance. The media mafia unsuccessfully tried to sue the other type out of existance. Because they only allow a back up of licensed material, it is in full accordance of the copywrite laws.

The licenses are on the ipod. You can back up your ipod to your hard disk. Frankly, I would not waste my time with low fidelity music.
