I have several compilations that were originally stored as FLAC files. When I try to convert them to MP3 so I can load them onto my car stereo, the converters report the files are an unsupported format. So far I've only tried FreeRIP and dBpoweramp. WinAmp has no problems playing the files. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

dBpoweramp is one of the best trans coders out there. I suspect you are converting the files to a format unreadable to your device. Winamp can play most formats so all you learned from that is the audios are not corrupt. I suspect you are confused and tried to load the lossless files onto your car sterio.

Actually, I suspect you didn't really read my post. I wrote

I'm aware enuff to know FLAC won't play on much of anything other than a computer, like Ogg Vorbis.
So I repeat, why wouldn't the converters recognize the formats as FLAC?

"unsupported format" says to me you need to find a converter that handles flac files should be some freebie stuff in software section.

Yes I did read but what you wrote was wrong, so I tried to guess what your mistake was. dbPA does handle FLAC. I figured you had installed the FLAC drivers and made a mistake while creating the mp3s. I guessed wrong. dbPA converts to and from about 50 formats. Because there are so many, you are expected and told up front, to install the encoders you are going to use. Only CDa and Lame are supported without installing any encoders. You must install the FLAC encoder before you can read or write FLAC.
