im wanting to burn a tv series to dvd as a data disc that will play on my standalone dvd player. ive burnt it once and my player does play it fine but it plays one episode after the other starting at episode 1, meaning i got to fast forward to say episode three etc, unless i watch from episode one to the end.
my question is
is there some way to create a menu that gives the option to choose which episode you want to watch?
if i can id rather burn as data disc to save space and time

You're talking about a disk that contains AVI files that can be played back on a compatible standalone DVD player?
On my players I can press the 'menu' key on the remote at any time and get back to the main screen that lists the files.

just burnt new data dvd and it says "unknown disc"? i burnt it through nero as data dvd, the same way i did last one
my discs are verbatim dvd+r

Does it play ok on the PC?
If it's ok on the pc and you are satisfied that the files are suitable for a DivX compliant standalone player, download and install ImgBurn (careful not to install any toolbars or other open candy junk).
Run ImgBurn.
On the main window click 'Write files/folders to disc'.
Drag or open the AVI files into the window.
Load a blank disk and click the 'Device' tab on the right of the main window.
Note the available burning speeds and select a moderate rate (4x).
Burn the compilation and retest on the standalone.

Here's a link to a small disk image containing two avi files.
Download clip.iso to a convenient location.
Run ImgBurn.
Click 'Write image files to disc'.
Browse to and load clip.iso then burn a disk.
I burned a CD and a DVD and tested them on a standalone player with no problems.
