DVD / VOB file playback on a smart TV

Hi there --

I have a lot of backed up DVD files on a portable external hard drive that I would like to play on my new LG SmartTV (model: LG 47LA6200). I'm finding that when I plug in my HDD to the TV's USB slot, the TV is able to recognize the audio_TS and video_TS folders, but only allows me to play individual VOB files. The files play back, but are choppy. I also see no option for subtitles. At the end of each VOB file, the TV automatically starts playing the next file, but with an annoying 2 second pause.

What I am looking for is a way to playback DVD folders seamlessly. For example, on my desktop, VLC player can recognize a DVD folder, and playback is smooth and flawless.

Any suggestions on how to do the same on an LG SmartTV would be most appreciated.
