I put this in here because it's a mish mosh of several subjects so I wasn't sure where to put it. It's also a multi-part question so any and all help is greatly appreciated.
I have a Canon Vixia HF R20 that when transferred all end up as .MTS and .MTSsfk files. I looked around the web and from what I see the camera should record in MPEG4. Am I doing something wrong there?
I've previously used Vegas to re-encode the video into an easier format (I think .avi) but the quality loss is tremendous. I'd like to do something with these files that leaves as much quality as possible so I'm asking for your advice. I'm building a new PC and would happily include components to make this an easier process. I assume video card is necessary, but is a Blu-Ray burner going to be needed? Whats the desired end format for those MTS files?
Lastly as I mentioned I have Vegas thru school, but its a bit much for me. Is there an easier program to use for light editing and adding clips together (currently each MTS files looks to correspond to one "press" of the record button so I have 100 files about 15 seconds long)

Again thanks for the help. I hope this hasn't been answered too many times I couldn't find any topics that really answered what I'm looking for.
