Hi guys
I have a Samsung DVD-H1080 Upscaling DVD Player. It will not play mkv's. I therefore only play avi's. The problem is it does not always play avi's and I am not sure what the parameters are that determine whether the machine will play or will not play a certain avi file.
I do not want to have to convert mkv's into avi's to be able to play them. I understand that mkv's are containers and the contents can be stripped out and merged to make and avi and when I did this the file would not play. I think it was because of the initial resolution of the mkv. Unfortunately, I could not alter the resolution of the merging file to suit my player. I usually convert files which will not play in to avi mpeg2 with ac3 and 720x576 settings is this ideal?. Surely there is a loss of quality
Any advice would be helpful. I would like to be able to play mkv's if it is possible. if not what are the best settings for avi's for such a player?
