Motorola DCT2524 Box with Comcast

I've got a setup with Comcast, a new Motorola DCT2524 digital box, and a VCR going to my TV. The cable input goes to a splitter which splits the signal between the VCR and the box with an a/b switch allowing me to watch either the box or the VCR outputs. Now I can tape some of the standard Comcast channels while I watch digital TV via the Motorola box. The Motorola has output RCA plugs which say right and left audio, video and composite. If I run from the RCA plugs to the VCR will I be able to tape a show on the VCR and watch a different show at the same time or can I only tape the show I'm watching?? I can't seem to find a manual for the box. If anyone can help in that area I'd appreciate that also.
