Hey, just wondering if there is such a thing as a WIFI signal booster? I'm Not talking about a wifi router with better antenas to broadcast further, but to receive a wifi signal from further away.

Just moved into a new apartment and was have a hotspot called uptown free wifi. but my signal strength flucuats from very low to no signal, during the day and evening seems to be the time when i CAN'T connect, but right now and from about 4am to now (6am) I have been able to connect. Just wondering if there are special "satelite" dishes or antenas to pick up a wifi signal from further away, without having the broadcaster improve their equipment.

my address from the center of the municiple area that is broadcasting is .2 miles away.

I thought i heard of something like this before but can't be sure. Was wondering if anyone can confirm. And if it does exist and you have used it, could suggest what has worked well for you.
