I have recently been having trouble burning disks.All the disks sold under different names, when examined under Nero toolkit are made by Plasmon except Verbatim.I have recently tried two packets of Muller CD's with very bad results.When they have been burnt and have failed verification, they were checked scanned on Nero toolkit and all had damaged sectors,some scattered and also large areas. But on all these disks examined, the damaged sectors were on different places on the CD.The computer shop where I bought these disks say it is the fault of the burner, not the disks.At last my question,if it was the fault of the CD burner, perhaps mechanical, shouldn't the damaged sectors be on the same position on all the disks?
It's only CD's (not DVDs)?
My experience is that almost any CD burns without problems.
Since the burner uses a different laser for DVD and CD, then it's entirely possible that the CD laser is failing.
Thank you for your prompt reply. The burner I am revering to is only a CD burner. One or two of the disks have been burnt correctly without any damaged clusters. All the others have damaged clusters to varying degrees, but not in the same position on any of the disks. So I am asking can the CD burner cause any physical damage, as the laser is burning.?
Inasmuch as the burner firmware regulates the amount of power to the laser (based on the identification code on the blank) - yes it can damage the disk.
You could try burning some data CDs using ImgBurn instead of Nero.
If the burns are still poor, you probably have a defective burner.
