I was wondering if anyone knew of any type of dvd that you can burn but comes out looking like it's been pressed. I thought I had found one a while ago but can't seem to find where I had found it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The closest you can get are DVD+/-RW discs. Those media have semi-metal alloy recording surfaces that look more like the aluminum or other alloys used in pressed DVDs. All other recordable DVDs use write-once dyes that have a purplish look to them because they are designed to respond to the ruby-red laser wavelength used by DVDs.

Yeah, but the gun-metal RW media are not archival. Unlike dye-based media, the phase change materials break down rather quickly.

No, there's not any recordable media that look like a press on the data side.

Phase-change media do not suffer from any affects from UV light. As long as there is no contamination in the deposited layers, phase-change media may last as long as or, perhaps, longer than dye-based materials, particularly those with double dielectric insulation such as ram.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">DVD-RAM or MOD. Rewritable media have gotten a bad rap from incompatible packet-writing programs that damage addressing formats and from inconsistancies from low production rates. There is nothing in the chemistry or technology that prevents them from being archival media.

A CD-R with phthalocyanine dye and proper tinting can look very close to a pressed disc with its aluminum mirror layer, so there is one medium that does match up with the pressed/sputtered version. DVD wavelengths do not allow that dye to be used, so the closest one can get is a rewritable DVD.
