How do you know if your burner is going bad or if you have a media issue? I've always used Verbatim DVD+R DL (media code MKM003) and never had an issue until recently. I've noticed failed burns and problems playing back (especially the second half of disc). Visually, after burning the underside of the media looks inconsistent with slightly different shades or layers of burns. This isn't present on any of the older burned dvds. Thanks for any help.

The ImgBurn forum recommends the MKM 001 disks (DataLifePlus).
Here's the link.

Thanks attar,
I'm considering just getting a new burner, I've had this LG for about 4 years and I think I've wore it out. I've used quite a few of the discs from the MKM003 spindle and haven't had any issues until just yesterday. The drive's also been making noises opening and closing. Like I said, I thought it was strange that the burned side of the discs(after burning) have a very different appearance from what I'm used to. Instead of a consistent shade of purple, they have obvious lighter and darker sections similiar to the way a vinyl album has different looks. I've had problems with the single layer Verbatims MCC004 too.
