What they mean is that you can silkscreen a "label" directly onto the disc surface.
Silkscreening is best suited for printing large quantities of discs (about 1,000 or more) and disc art that has simple illustrations and high-quality text. It provides a glossy look; vibrant, even color and sharp images. Many discs with shiny silver surfaces are good for silkscreening.
As for recording properties, Verbatim is a very good disc. When we recommend discs to our customers, we usually recommend Taiyo Yuden, Falcon and Verbatim (in that order). Record to them as you would any DVD-R.
and it shows DVD-R Maxell,Mitsubishi, TDK, Sony (16x)
DVD+R CMC MBF, Mitsubishi, Tai Youden Sony (16x)
Liteon sent me a spec sheet yesterday showing all the data and after the DVD +R and -R , at the end of the list it shows the 16x, so that's the max or recommended?

That's the maximum speed at which you can burn your disc. That means if you have a two hour video, you can record it in about 15 minutes. (More or less..there's other variables involved, but that's the gist.) This also means you can purchase 16X discs or 8X discs . Your 8X discs will be less expensive.
I recommend Microboards brand LightScribe discs for this. (I'll let you in on a little secret: Microboards is a private label disc that's manufactured by the same company that's making the Verbatim LightScribe discs...but Microboards discs cost less.)
