Hey all, I'm a noob here so feel free to move this post somewhere else (this thread seemed one of the best to make this request in XD) if you want.

OK, so I have some footage that is on a Sony DVD-R mini disc, that was captured on a Hitachi camera (I can't find model number - it's my Mum's). Now what I need to do is to get that footage off the disk and onto my laptop, only problem is I have no idea how to.

When I stick the disc into my computer, it can't load the disc and freezes (no restart needed to get out of this problem). I can't find any cables that link that camera straight to my computer and so I have no idea what else to do.

If it helps, I've tried importing/capturing using the editing software that I'm using which is Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 V4.00

Any help will be much appreciated!

Pieisgood- well the first thing you may wanna try is to check whether or not the mini-dvd disc is finalized ? it will probably only finalize in the camcorder that made it or another camcorder that's the same model ! Finalize means that the Disc or Mini dvd in your case will be completed and closed { You won't be able to add or delete files from the disc after this point ! The disc contents are now Final/permanent ! Hence the term finalized ! If you disc isn't finalized it probably will not play on anything but your camcorder ! Once finalized it should play almost anywhere ! After that you can put it into your lapttop or desktop and edit it with whatever program you wish to use or whichever your computer has on it ? this way you can obviate the need for cables, patchcords , adapetrs ect... As to what cables you might need if your going to playback your disc to your computer from the Camcorder ? Well that would depend on the make and model of your camcorder ? and how recently it was manufacturerd ? - In general it should have a Firewire or Usb/UsB2 output jack on the camera with the Firewire being more prevalent and more prefered in this type of Device{ Camcorder ) Whichever you have you have to get a cable in that form /type to attach to your computer and camcorder ! After that you can follow the guides of your editing program and get to work !!! You might want to go online and see if you can download the manual for you camera as that would be specific to your situation and more detailed than my limited Generic Advice ! I hope this helps you somewhat if even only to point you in the right general direction!! Good LUcK and God Bless My friend !!! Ciao!!!!
