Not sure where to start.I'm a long time user of DVDShrink and Decrypter. I have issues with some of my discs freezing and pixelating and a few DL's not starting in the player but will in the laptop.
I posted previously and got very little response. I will try Verbatim AVO's as suggested throughout this forum.
Some also suggest the need to update aging burners to offset any compatibility issues with today's media.
I would have posted this in the "Hardware" forum but there's not much activity. I'm looking for suggestions for a replacement. I don't want to spend over a c-note and am looking for a external. Are there new features that are a must have?

features as a must have?.. not really.. cheapness and reliability come to mind.. other than that most new ones are much the same.. BUY BRANDED .. don't buy any old oem hl-dt-st crap. Just read a bunch of reviews on cd-freaks.. then read between the lines a little depending on what you know you will be burning with them...

pioneer/samsung/nec are the ones I use.. and have for years.. I think lite-on should be renamed shite-on .. but that's just my personal experiences with them, others report they like them.. I always found they made crap burns out of the box and started throwing out coasters after about 12 months.. I burn thousands of disks a year.. for sheer toughness you can't beat NEC drives... supplied with good media they go on and on and on.. IF you copy a lot of disks (I don't.. I burn self generated images) samsungs are generally better readers than the others..

ARR! Them pesky Navy! Get out of my sea!

In Your Price Range.

This Burner Uses an External Power Cord and Is Connected to the Computer Via USB, So It's Not Really a Perfect Match For a Laptop, But if You're Near an Outlet It Gets the Job Done.

Your Problem May Not Be With Your Burner, But With the Speed You Burn Your Disc.

First Try Using Dfab to Rip Your Disc to Your Hard Drive, Then, Imgburn to Burn to Blank Disc at 1/2 the Rated Speed of the Blank Media. Set the Target Area to 4300 and Use those Verbatum Disc. Ensure Your Firmware is Up to Date. (You Can Check This in Imgburn)
