Trouble with mad dog dvdrw

My mad dog LS-DVDRW TSH652M device was reading fine, I have never used it to write, then it just stopped working. anytime I put a dvd or cd into the device my whole computer locks up, even if I just try an access it when it is empty. Any thoughts?
