wonderful Fony.. install the driver, then you need to find a video capture application that actually works with the thing.. we found that nero8 worked with fony camcorders where nothing else did, but it depends on lots of other things... like how your usb com ports are assigned.. we found on nero that the fony cam was coming in on com12

They come with the camera.. and they only contain the driver and a very basic editing tool.. which may have a VERY basic capture function.. but never found one that came with a camera which worked..
As the disk is copyright content an image anywhere (because of the very basic editing thing) can't be linked to... even if it's found.
When we do captures from these machines they don't show up in device manager either.. it's a raw video stream.. so you NEED some capture program running. Try a few of these..

Looks like it is time to buy software. I don't have time to look, but does that camcorder have a firewire port on it? Is it a miniDV tape camera?
If it is a miniDV tape camcorder, the only good captured video that you will get, is by connecting it to your computer via a firewire cable, which did not come with the camcorder.
Actually, there is a very good free, capture software you can get. It is called WinDV (not Win DVD). It will work a treat for capturing from your Sony.

The Camcorder is a MiniDV tape recorder, so, you will need a firewire cable and firewire card for your PC. You cannot get the video with USB.
Download WinDV (it is free) and it will do the job for you. Then get DVDFlick and it will take the captured file and make a DVD out of it. DVDFlick is free too!

First, the answer is no.
Second, doesn't your laptop have a firewire port on it? How old is the laptop?

Lap top does have a four-pin Fire-Wire connector is this good enough ...
Cable ? Do i just buy a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable or is there a certain/best type ?
Going to go with the advice of WinDV AND DVD flick as very bad reports about picture package ...

Hi guys......Have a similar problem. I have a new laptop after my other died....and it seems I DONT have a firewire port on there :(
Is there a piece of hardware (I guess it might be a fireware card, or something that changes my USB port to a firewire?) that I can buy so I can connect my DCR-HC19E Sony Handycam to my laptop ASPIRE 5738Z ?
Any help with this would be very much appreciated as I am trying to get the film of my recently deceased grandmother, onto DVD for my family.
Thankyou
Richie.

I have the original Picture Package 1.5 CD Rom that was sold along with my HC19E camera....I will be glad to let you have it as....I have a new laptop running Windows Vista which doesn't support either the drivers for the camera or Picture Package Software. I have been to the Sony Europe website and have managed to download and install a Driver that recognises the camera. I have also installed something called PMB (Picture Motion Browser) which seems to have the same attributes as PP...However, one cannot import taped images to the computer using a USB connection....it apparently needs an i-LINK connection. I see the "DV Out" hole in the camera but nothing similar on my HP G60-214EM laptop....How does one do this ?
Sorry if I've hi-jacked your thread but it seems there are a few of us with similar problems out there...
Let me know if you want the CD-Rom and we can exchange details.
Regards,
stupot52
