Video Capture on Mac with 5.1

Project 1. Freeing my Cable Company DVR set top space by backing up to Mac.
Downloaded SDK software from Apple Dev Site output via FW. It did work on older Leopard OSX .. now nothing happens.. A
Anyone have experience with this...?

Alternate option... get a Elgato Video Capture Box... HD ok but audio is only Stereo(LR) does not suppport 5.1.. Is there a devise that does that
