hi,
I have 2 yrs old Sony DDU1622 pata Dvd writer ,recently, it started having trouble reading dvd's ,so I opened it up and cleaned the lens and reflecting mirror and I saw gunk collecting on the guide rods and on the screw drive on which the entire lens assembly moves,so I cleaned it up and applied some machine oil,after that I adjusted the pot ,and moved it a little anticlockwise
After this I closed the drive and tested it outside of the Pc cabinet ,it was working just like new and was able to read almost every dvd . So I installed the drive back in the Pc cabinet. The drive worked fine for about 1 minute, then suddenly it stopped reading any kind of disc dvd/cd.
So I had to remove and open the dvd drive yet again. I found that the lens is constantly lit with full intensity all the time,as soon as the power molex is connected to the drive ,the lens lits up with full intensity and remains lit all the time,when a disk is inserted in the drive ,the lens keeps on seeking but reads nothing ,it remains constantly lit even if there is no disc in the drive .
Can somebody please help me to locate the cause of this problem.
