LG GE24LU20 - Doesnt read DVDs at 16x

I bought an LG GE24LU20 external DVD Rewriter and according to the LG website and every other site Ive checked, this drive is supposed to be able to read DVDs at 16x but it still takes at least 30mins to backup a movie using CloneDVD2. Why is this?

I know about Media Code Speed Edit and it is not an option for me because there is no firmware update for the drive yet, not to mention the fact that the MCSE website doesnt list my drive as a supported device. Is there any other way I can get max read speed from my new DVD drive?
