Samsung SH222L stops importing

Help..............I'm a newbie so be gentle
I have a Samsung SH222L that I bought from New Egg. I am having a problem importing stuff into I-tunes (books on tape) If the book is say 10 disk, the 1st 8 go in fine then the 9th goes in really slow and the 10th even slower or not at all. Disk 1 through 8 will import in 4 minutes each. Disk 9 in 10 minutes and disk 10 in 1 hour ++ if at all.
I might add that this is the 2nd DVD Rom. The 1st went back to Samsung for the same problem. I also have a Sony DVD Rom that is older (about 5 years) but works perfect
My PC is older running XP Pro SP3 with 3 gigs of ram and a P4 3.0Ghz but works perfect as evidence of the Sony working and also the ability to import most of the book before the problem occurs
Any thoughts or suggestions
