Hello, I'm trying to burn a movie to a dvd+r disc and the drive is just not recognizing it at all. The drive actually makes a sort of ticking sound when I insert the disc. dvd-rs work fine. I know my drive is compatible with dvd+r because I used to burn exclusively on them. I upgraded to Windows 7 over the Summer, could that have something to do with it? It's possible that I haven't tried to burn a DVD+R since then. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? You think I need a new drive? Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks

Edit: hold the phone. I just put a Verbatim DVD+R in the drive and it worked. Yet Memorex and Gigaware (Radioshack brand) DVD+R did not. Why is this?

It's up to the burner what it will accept not the operating system.

Verbatim are generally regarded as being better quality than most of the brand names and most burners accept them.

If the rejected disks were from a new, unopened, package (the disks may have a different id code that the burner does not recognize) it's possible that your burner needs a firmware update.

Well before starting this thread, I followed the instructions in this one, and upgraded from version .03 to .07 and it didn't help. Is that the same thing you are talking about? And it is normal for the drive to make a strange clicking sound when media it can't read is inserted?

Edit: I guess it was just the discs. I just returned them for Verbatim and these work fine. Strange. Thanks.
