Can't Edit Mpeg Mpg Video

I recently purchased a Sony hdd dcr-sr45 hard disk video camera. But I cant manage to edit the MPg file output. I have worked with .avi and .mov and converted and have achieved good results. But MPEG or .Mpg file is different, a real drag so far. I was able to edit in windows movie maker, just, (on my 2mhz amd desk top,xp pro, 4gb ram)

but could not finalise a render :) crap output.

I chased some forums here and found MainConcept? MPEG Pro? HD 4 (http://www.mainconcept.com/site/prosumer-products-4.html) comes in at $150 US (I am in Australia. (around $200)

Tried to convert MPG into AVI using winff but it takes ages.

I have easily edited and converted .mov files into avi and stuff but this is a real doozie..

Thanks Sony, perhaps it should be mentioned on the pac that its not very possible to edit mpeg unless you purchase another of you products for $500 au

the 2 best mpeg editors are videredotvsuite and womble mpeg wizard dvd. A basic mpeg editor is womble MPEG2VCR (cost 19.00) all it does is cut scenes.
All 3 of these editors are quick, you don't loose quality. They are also frame accurate.

Stay away from all the other editors, most will reencode the video (which can take hours) and you will loose quality and sometime get video/audio sync problems.

thanks. I am looking into womble now. This is much appreciated advice. Thanks very much. I just hope there are some editing features. like transitions and superimposing, but I will settle for the same level as Windows Movie maker. Which was free.
