iv been working with some diy batery packs for the psp (external) and i have accidentaly conected the wires in reverse polarity!!!
this in turn has fried the regulator/fuse chip on the psp mobo :(
i dont want to replace the whole mobo and i heard that it is possible to short circuit the chip and it shud work unless the reverse voltege exeded 5.80 volts (witch it didnt) it was only @ 5.013 (measured with multimeter)
does anyone know anything bout this chip? (i cant seem to make sense of the markings on it)
couldnt fing it on google either :(
thanks 4 ur help

When you reverse the polarity of somethin and send the power thru the ground that doesnt just blow fuses....that totally fried your whole mobo. Take jumper cables for a car and put them on backwards and within 30 seconds the power running through them completely melts it. Although there might still be a way to fix it. Well see, but im thinkin a whole new mobo is whats going to fix it. You psp doesnt even turn on now does it?

brick psp buyers have the parts for go check for them,
lucky your psp still alive.
better swapping batteries than a toasted motherboard.
hmmn im thinking if there was battery that charges externally while still being used on the psp? i guess none as of now but if the parts manufacturers can read your problem maybe they can make 1 for you hehehe

@ xche78x
there were some prototypes 4 cell fones, it was half a transformer that would be glued to your battery and the wires would be soldered directly onto the batery leads, wen you placed your phone on the electromagnetic pad the current would transfer from the pad to the internal batery pad through the batery and into you phone!

@ Kazangwa...thats y i made my name like that, i get stuck on things a lot :( :P

Haha! Clever. BTW i dun think that you could charge it while in use except with the original ac adapter because the little chips in the battery are already touching the psp and if any are removed the battery doesn't power it, meaning you could fit any sort of charger in it. Also, there aren't any other openings on the battery, meaning no other methods.

ahhh, hah i did the same thing to my psp. -_- except i dont have an external charger. i dont really want to pay 30 bucks to get one so i was wondering, couldnt you just put a wire inbetween the two points?

edit: hey stuckonit, i took apart the psp and saw that yeah the fuse was broken. its a 2.5 amp fuse. so you should go get a 2.5 amp pico fuse and just saulder it on. i acutally just sauldered a wire past the fuse cus i couldnt wait to get the fuse. so now i can charge perfectly ^_^

this is a pic of the motherboard.

the fuse that you need to fix is the 2.5 amp power on the right side of the pic. just solder a wire to joint the two metal points. if there is a white t on your fuse, then that means you broke it. so just solder a wire inbetween the two points.

note: you do not need to take out the whole motherboard to fix it. just the metal thing under the lcd.
