I recently purchased the movie "Hero" from overseas, and I tried making a copy using dvdshrink and dvddecrypter

While ripping with both problems, they both ebcountered errors and failed

Anyone know a way to get around this?

Its most likey because the disk is from a different region then what you have in your drive... there are two alternatives... one is if you have 2 or more changes on your region setting is you could change it to the one you need to, back up the disk, change it back... or find the modified firmware for you drive which makes is RPC1 and not RPC11

HP Pavilion 533w

Escobar22,
Download the trial version of AnyDVD from the AD site,it allows you to read, rip and burn DVD,s from any region and makes the burn region free,if you decide to purchase at the end of the trial ,its well worth it.

Well to be honest if it is multi-region then I would assume that it contains no CSS encryption (maybe wrong).......so ripping may not be needed.....

Therefore what you have on the disc may just be raw data......

Could you tell us what steps you took in order to try and backup the disc?
Also include 'the specific fault' that was displayed?

it was a cylce redundancy error which usually means a dirty disc

it was a brand new dvd out of the box so i assumed it was clean

when i looked closer there was a slight but deep circular scratch all the way around the dvd

that has to be it 'cause i've never had that problem before

i should be getting a new copy of Hero any day now, so i'll let u know how it turned out

Yes, cyclic redundancy usually means unreadable data.....

Usually attributed to a dirty disc or scratched etc....

Yep, let us know how you get on......

When you do get it, put it through dvd decrpter and see if it is CSS encrypted - if it isn't it will display Cd key n/a.........just interested.....
