Hi all,

I have been backing up DVDs for sometime now without a problem, using DVD Shrink, Image Tool and Decrypter. I have a Pentium 3 which does not have enough memory for Nero 6. I do have Nero 5.5.14 however, does anyone know if I can burn DVDs with that, if I get the plug-in, and what the name of the plug-in is? I had it but cannot seem to find it.

I assume that burning with Nero would eliminate the need for Image Tool.

Moreover, is it possible to burn a DVD using only Decrypter, and by-passing the Image Tool?

Now, I recently purchased a DVD in PAL format, which is region-free. It was made on a home computer, I have yet to receive the DVD, (it is how Greece won Euro 2004), but the vendor says that it is in PAL and will not play on an NTSC stand-alone player.

I have been thinking up of ways to copy it, using DVD shrink, but I don't think that will work. I read some posts in this forum, and came to the conclusion that I can only accomplish this by copying the DVD to the hard drive, in AVI format, using 1st DVD ripper, or an alternate program, if one of you can suggest a better one. My question is, at this point, will the AVI file created by ripping the DVD be as large as if ripped by DVD shrink, that is 4.5 GB? If the AVI is smaller, will it be as good quality as VOB files created by DVD shrink?

The next step would be to convert the AVI file to DVD, using Cucusoft. I have opened that and saw that it offers conversion of AVI files to either PAL or NTSC. It also allows the user to choose the height and width of the output file. I don't know if this is done automatically, I do know there is a slight difference between PAL and NTSC in height, and that the widths are the same. I guess I will find out when I try it.

Has anyone used Cucusoft? Will the output VOB files be the same as those produced by DVD shrink? If yes, I assume I can burn them with Image Tool and Decrypter. Does anyone with more experience have any idea as to whether or not this sounds reasonable?

Finally, can I use DVD shrink and Decrypter to make copies of the original DVD in PAL format? I don't know if Decrypter burns in PAL, although my feeling is that it should.

Thank you in advance for any replies or suggestions.
