24hours to re-encode a DVD??

I read from a guide recently that it takes 24 hours to re-encode a DVD to a lesser resolution with a view to fitting it on 1 DVD-R. Is this true? Surely it can be done in less than a day!?

It all depends on the quality you are looking for. If you use Rempeg on the highest quality setting, it can take more than 24h! If you tone down the settings, that same movie can only take 7h.

It's all up to your personal preference. If you don't want to wait you can always split to 2 DVD-R/+Rs.

Yes, unfortunately quality takes time. You can always invest in a faster CPU if you intend on doing it a lot.

my comp is 2.2ghz p4 w/ 1 gig of corsair ram... will take it long too? (unessary info: 8 cache meg hard drive / 128 geforce3 ti200)

That's why i dont use Rempeg.. i do all my encoding with tmpg.. the quality is first rate, and with a 2 pass vbr it only takes about 5 hours on my Athlon xp 2200+
