Honestly did not expect this pairing at all. Cursor tying its future to SpaceX's compute instead of staying dependent on OpenAI or Anthropic makes sense strategically though, especially once you consider both of those companies are building their own coding tools now. Makes total sense they'd want to own more of the stack instead of building on a competitor's foundation.

The data center access angle is the real story here I think, more than the valuation number. Access to that kind of infrastructure could actually let them iterate faster than smaller AI coding startups that don't have a hardware giant backing them. I found some platforms covering compute and hardware infrastructure over at Orange Hardwares, worth checking out if this kind of hardware backed AI race interests you.
