I have a Philips DVD+RW D28 that is about two years old. It was working just fine a couple of days ago but now it doesn't seem to burn anything but DVD+RW discs.
The only changes to my computer configuration have been:
1. Installation of Microsoft updates (I have since removed those updates but it has not solved the problem)
2. Upgrade of the firmware to v1.68
3. Upgrade of DVD Decrypter to v3.2.3.0
I am encountering three types of problems when trying to burn discs with DVD Decrypter:
1. DVD Decrypter will not acknowledge the presence of a blank disc. It returns either "Device Not Ready: Power Calibration Area Error" or "Device Not Ready: 0x91, 0x32"
2. DVD Decrypter will begin the burning process but return a write error during the "Writing LeadIn" process.
3. DVD Decrypter will go through the entire burning process but the completed disc will not be readable afterwards.
I am only using DVD Decrypter and Roxio Easy Media Creator 6 to burn DVDs. And, I am using HP DVD+R blank discs, which have worked fine for me in the past.
I would normally think this was just a case of bad discs but I have already gone through about ten discs out of 100. Also, I've used about 40 discs from the pack previously and had no trouble.
I have tested the ISO images and they work perfectly. I have also ensured that all plugs and connections are firm inside the PC. I am also not able to write non-movie data using Roxio. However, I *AM* able to write to DVD+RW discs (Memorex) just fine. The burning process and the finished disc are perfect.
Two questions: First, is my drive dead or dying? And, second, why would I be able to write to DVD+RWs and not to DVD+Rs?
I am a first-time user on this board, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
