I've got a couple of AVI files I'm trying to convert to a different format. (Yes, I know this is an audio-only forum...bear with me.) According to AVI Codec, the audio track is:

Audio : 22 MB, 96 Kbps, 32000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = Lame MP3, Supported

...and as you can see by the "Supported" remark, I *have* the Lame MP3 codec on my system. My problem is this:

* Whenever I try to play this AVI with anything except the "classic" media player, the software locks up.

* Both avi-converting programs I normally use (VirtualDub, TMPGEnc) either don't recognize the audio track as usable (TMPGEnc) or crash if I try to dub or get audio information from it (VirtualDub).

I've successfully seperated the audio track out as a seperate file using VirtualDub (it's okay just so long as I don't try to re-encode or get audio data about the track).

I then tried to use GoldWave to re-encode the track...which causes Goldwave to crash.

Any ideas? What should I do?
