Hi guys,
I bought D00M3 on the first day~!!!!! I have a blast playling it untill I saw all the reviewsand screen shots. The game looks more better and more funner on their computer than mind. Now I want a new graphic card. Im currently using XFX5500 256mb. My budget is about $500. So I am aiming for those top of line ones.
And here are some questions.

1) My mobo is this. Will the x800 xt or the 6800 ultra work on it? http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-127-156&depa=0

2) I saw a link from Praetor about the 6800 ULTRA EXTREAM EDITION. Is this even worth a wait?

3) Where can I get a x800 xt or 6800 ultra? I look around and it is all sold out. And What brand should I get? For example x800 xt = ATI? 6800 Ultra = eVga ?

I'm pretty ugly at these computer stuff. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

-Thx ChimpSter-

Let me just give my specs base on what I know. It may help with my questions.

CPU = Intel® Pentium-4 Processor 3.0 Ghz CPU [512K Cache, 800MHz FSB, Hyper Threading Ready]

CASE = Nzxt Guardian ATX Mid-Tower Case w/420W Power Supply

CARD and MOBO above post.

RAM = 1024 MB Dual Channel [512MB X2] DDR-400 PC3200 Hyper X

HD = 160 western digital

Hi,

I would highly recommend taking a good look at the nVidia 6800GT. It's a downclocked version of the overpriced 6800 Ultra.

The two top tier cards, the 6800 Ultra and X800XT, both start at $550 and go all the way up to $600 for some models. Too damn much money for something that will be surpassed in six months.

The second tier cards, the 6800GT and the X800 Pro, both start at $425 and go up to $500. Now the thing to keep in mind is that these two cards have a big difference between them. The X800 Pro has 12 pipelines versus the 6800 GT's 16 pipelines. That's a huge difference and a no-brainer when the cards cost roughly the same amount of money :)

AMEN!!!

I think spending over $300 on a video card is ridiculous for the same reason.

I think the ATI 9800 Pro is a good compromise. You can get it for around $275.

If you're set on getting a "top tier" card, I agree that you should go with the Nvidia chip from what I've read.
