I've just discovered that I can record mono voice mp3's with the bitrate as low as 24k bps and still have surprisingly high quality if I change the -q setting in LAME (3.92) to zero:

lame -b 24 -q 0 <source> <output>

I've already made a bunch of voice recordings at 56k bps and higher, and I'd like to resample them down to 24k, but lame strips off the mp3 tags when I do this. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to keep the tags, (or maybe save them to a file and restore them after the conversion?

This is the batch file I'm using do the conversion at the moment:

mkdir converted24k
for %%X in (*.mp3) do c:\lame\lame -b 24 -q 0 "%%X" "./converted24k/%%X"

Thanks.
