to detect the drive, or is it just plug and play?

some info on the HDD for you. a normal IDE HDD will not appear in the PS2 menu but the offical HDD will. you will need HD-Advance to run, install and format your HDD (IDE or offical both need it)but their are PC programs that allow you to install games in ISO, BIN or straight from disk. such as PS2 HD Handiness 0.70 and WinHIIP. WinHIIP will allow you to format the HDD, you can't use a PC formatted HDD. you can get WinHIIP from here http://forums.psxforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=22748
some people will tell you that you need 40GB or more but that is crap. thats all i can think of @ the moment.

@aznbound: you will have to connect the HDD to your PC using IDE cables. you just install the HDD like you would with any other HDD for your PC. but your PS2 HDD will have to be set to slave using your BIOS.
@Quikshot
i'm not sure about the USB HDD i've never heard of any1 using it. i don't think it would work as you probs of heard about since the BOOM in HDD for the PS2

ok here it comes.

Use winhiip (or other), if u want to format any HD in a PS2 format.

1. plug the HD in ur PC
2. use the program to format
3. put some games on it in .iso format if u want
4. or plug it back into ur PS2
-------------------------------------------------------

u can also use faplink, if u want to transfer games from ur pc, STRAIGHT to ur PS2 HD.
1. download faplink
2. burn the faplink proggram on a cd, and put it in the PS2
3. open the other faplink prog on ur pc.
4. make connection,
5. choose game ( .iso or .bin format)
6. type in the name of the game
7. Click "install"..and ur off :)
8. Reeboot the PS2 after games is transfered.

P.S. u cannot transfer games above 2 GB !! (yet..)

any questions ?
