convert composite(rca) to d-sub 15 pin

I would like to convert a composite video signal(from a dvd player) to a standard lcd monitor that has a d-sub 15 pin connector. If this sounds strange, let me explain. I'm looking for a large lcd to install in my van. I'd prefer to go with a standard pc lcd in lieu of a lcd/tv for several reasons:
The main reason is power consumption. lcd/tv's consume nearly twice the power(12v5 to 6amps vs. 3 to 4 amps)
pc lcd's are lighter
most pc lcd's dont have built in speakers(smaller)
pc lcd's are generally much cheaper than lcd/tv's.

So, is this signal conversion possible?

Does anyone know if this adaptor will work both ways?
Most people want to convert d-sub to composite, I want to do the opposite.

The cables sold at "Triangle Cable" are a scam! Read what I wrote about it in this thread (my August 5th posting):

This is the kind of device that you need for converting Composite to VGA (D-sub):

It's only $44 at Provantage (the above website), which is a very good price. I don't think you'll be able to find anything cheaper for converting Composite to VGA (D-sub).
